Job Description:

Wellington is looking to add a Claims Director to assist with Wellington's expansion into the Florida market. This individual must have a strong knowledge of the claims handling process in Florida and the challenges of same. This role requires adaptability, creativity, a strong desire to champion initiatives, and the ability to wear many hats. This role is expected to morph into a more hands on role as claim volume in Florida materializes.

Duties Include, but are not limited to:


  • Formulate recommendations regarding claims policies and procedures. Champion new ideas and changes.
  • Create and implement processes and procedures necessary for success; identify improvements as necessary.
  • Act as the regulatory compliance liaison for the Claims department. Remain apprised of ever-changing state regulations and issues, industry activities, and trends in order to implement changes to stay current with same.
  • Direct claim handling in accordance with the established guidelines and criteria; provide direction and guidance to Claims Supervisors.
  • Meet with Claims Supervisors on a regular basis to identify trends and training needs for staff.
  • Provide respectful, constructive feedback to Claim Supervisors regarding leadership of their teams and assist with overall team performance.
  • Conduct quarterly and as-needed quality reviews/claim audits to ensure conformance to Company claim handling best practices and state regulations. Deliver targeted training and develop performance objectives based on same.
  • Identify and develop departmental training opportunities. In conjunction with others in the Company, develop training materials and assist in training sessions.
  • In coordination with Office of the General Counsel, investigate and respond to complaints filed with state insurance departments.
  • Produce and present reports on a regular basis and as needed by management.
  • Act as Company liaison for client companies and provide effective service to client companies in response to claims issues and information requests.
  • Supervise and support work-load surges due to weather-related events as needed.
  • May travel on occasion to work with Field Property Adjusters and/or manage a catastrophic event.
  • Perform other duties as instructed or required to complete the job successfully, including special projects and/or work-load surges due to weather-related events that may require hours beyond core business hours.

    Qualifications/Skills Desired:

    • Minimum ten years Property/Casualty, hands-on property claims experience, 5 years of which must be management experience.
    • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Adjusters License for states in which the Company conducts business.
    • CPCU, preferred.
    • Completion of a major insurance designation, or actively pursuing insurance related courses, preferred.
    • Fluency in Spanish preferred.
