Position Summary: The General Laborer position assists the skilled craft personnel in performing required construction tasks to complete a project. We have an immediate need for work in Fort Myers, FL; per diem provided if travel is required. You will need to be able to get to and work in Fort Myers for an extended period. Ideal Candidate: Education & Certifications:Highschool or equivalentValid drivers licenseAuthorized to work in the United States Experience:Experience and proficiency working with standard laborer tools such as (but not limited to): sledgehammers, shovels, brooms, vacuums, pressure washers and general hand tools.Prior general/skilled labor experience a plusConcrete experience preferred Skills: Honest, trustworthy, dependable.Punctual. Must arrive at work by the designated start time.Must have a safety-first attitude. Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures is requiredMust display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.Ability to work diligently while under time restraints. Willing to accept change.Ability to communicate well as part of a small team and work cooperatively with other colleagues.Ability to give and receive, understand, respond, and follow verbal and written communication and instructions. Responsibilities: Operate and care for construction equipment and machines.Prep construction sites by cleaning obstacles and hazards.Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications.Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.Mix, pour, or spread concrete, using portable cement mixers.Tend pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment or to heat or move materials, such as asphalt.Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures.Sweeps and cleans the project site.Carries lumber and supplies to CarpentersHelps carpenters assemble concrete formsAssists welders when neededWorks with cranes and riggingActs as signal person for the equipment operatorsChips, paints, sweeps, and washes down equipment on the job siteSafely secure the work area to allow only authorized personnel onto work zoneLoads and unloads materials from, deck barges, and miscellaneous equipmentProvide assistance to craft workers, such as carpenters, plasterers, or masons.Performs other duties as required. Physical Demands/Working Environment: Work is performed in the field and in all weather conditionMust be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials up to 75 pounds.Ability able to tolerate, vibrations, heat, and high noise levelsAble to safely execute duties in and round heavy equipment/large machinery in marine dredging and marine construction job sitesAble to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, safety glasses, personal flotation devices, respirators, etc.) Benefits: Ballard offers a comprehensive benefits package and provides a culture that values opportunity for growth, development, and internal promotion.
